FUUMI FUUMI

125 Rosslyn St, West Melbourne

Situated only moments from Queen Victoria Market, this quaint new Japanese Cafe and bakery is serving freshly baked Japanese bread, loaded sandos and delicious sweet treats. Don’t go without trying their tonkatsu sando, filled with crispy panko crumbed pork chop, tonkatsu sauce and cabbage slaw on their signature nama shokupan bread. There are a variety of tea blends on offer including sencha, hojicha and matcha, along with coffee from Toby Estate.

MONFORTE VIENNOISERIE

585 Canning St, Carlton North

Canning Street has seen rise to a new hole-in-the-wall bakery, serving a delightful array of Euro-inspired small-batch pastries and artisanal jams. The electric menu rotates regularly to make the most of seasonal ingredients, but you can be sure to find unique flavour combinations in their pastries like preserved lemon and hazelnut or asparagus and goats curd. There are also a variety of gluten free options available, such as strawberry-yuzu muffins and ginger brownies. To accompany your pastry of choice, batch brew from Everyday Coffee is also on offer.

ONA COFFEE

22 Ovens Street, Brunswick

Much to the delight of Melbourne coffee fiends, ONA Coffee has opened a new venue in the heart of Brunswick. The award-winning coffee company has already been making waves in the Canberra and Sydney coffee scene, and are now here to make their Melbourne debut. With over 20 specialty blends on offer and a focus on providing transparency in the production of their beans, ONA is raising the bar for Melbourne coffee. Whilst ONA’s focus is primarily on coffee, the brunch menu is just as exquisite. You’ll find classic brunch staples, alongside more innovative dishes like their signature hotcake with whipped corn tofu, each dish is thoughtfully crafted to complement your coffee-tasting experience.

A modern, cafe oasis has landed in Essendon Fields which has absolutely nailed the winning mix of top-notch customer service and quality cuisine, whilst putting local ingredients at the forefront. The menu displays a skilful level of delicacy and finesse with everything made in-house, from the bbq sauce to the vegan almond feta. If you’re a traditionalist, the menu is loaded with Melbourne brunch staples including Smashed Avo, Corn & Zucchini Fritters and their signature dish, the Chilli Scramble. Come lunch, try the Beef Rib Burger – slow cooked on the bone and packed with pickles, jalapeños and a house-made BBQ sauce. With a menu this good, you’ll find it hard to order just the one dish!

BEGGS & ACON

24 Chatham Street, Prahran

From the team behind Mr Miyagi comes a new breakfast haven, reinventing the classic breakfast staple – bacon and eggs. Think bacon-and-egg doughnuts, egg and bacon empanadas served with hollandaise, and a moreish egg and bacon roll with scrambled eggs, chives, grilled short bacon, hollandaise, and chilli jam. It’s a simple menu, but every dish boosted by local produce and ingredients to redefine the way Melbournians think of bacon and eggs.

NORMAN

If you’re a brunch-loving Instagram addict, you’ll have to add Norman to your must-try list. The sleek venue is certainly worthy of the gram, with brushed brass finishes, marble patterns, baby blue hues and luscious greenery creating the perfect backdrop for your next brunch. Aside from the interior, Norman is serving up the breakfast and brunch classics you love, such as crumpets and waffles, a loaded brekky board and a seriously Australian dish – Vegemite avo toast!

HEAD HONCHO

30 Chatham St, Prahran

Few meals truly hit the spot like a fresh, gooey toasted sandwich and a well-made coffee. Prahran’s newest cafe, Head Honcho is slinging exceptional brews and toasties that will have you re-thinking the Aussie staple. Sitting in a secluded spot just off Chapel Street, you’ll find the small, yet ambitious Western cowboy-themed venue, with an undeniable determination to evoke positive change in their local community. The concise menu consists of seven toasted sandwich creations which are far from your average corner-store sandwich, including the ‘Vaquero’ – A Tex-Mex inspired toastie filled with black beans, avocado, smoked scamorza, jalapenos, red onion, tomato puree and crunchy, spiced corn from Savour & Grace.

If you’ve ever checked out Coe & Coe’s Cremorne or Port Melbourne locations, you’ll be thrilled to know they have recently opened another venue in the heart of Yarraville. The team at Coe & Coe are all about serving good vibes, banging paninis, delicious juices and knock out coffees. The menu covers all bases, including the classic Coe & Coe Panini with prosciutto, bocconcini, tomato and pesto, or the Burger Life panini with chicken, cheese, avocado and Jalapeño aioli. If you’re not huge on bread there’s plenty of salad options on offer!

Bellboy Café

2/131 Nicholson Street, East Brunswick 

Bellboy Cafe is the latest venue putting East Brunswick Village on the map with a modern take on Melbourne brunch classics and a dedicated NYC-style bagel menu. Highlights include the Bellboy Benedict with wood smoked pastrami, poached egg, potato hash, Russian hollandaise and topped with “everything bagel” seasoning, or the house smoked salmon bagel, with cream cheese, capers, red onion, tomato, dill and lemon. There’s something here for everyone – from dragon fruit smoothie bowls to waffles served with crispy chicken, fried egg and sriracha maple bacon. Get that well deserved Saturday afternoon tipple and round out your meal with a smoking rainbow cocktail or cold brew irish coffee. If you have a sweet tooth, you’ll want to try their viral insta-worthy cream cakes.
